Petne lets you upload a photo of your cat or dog and brings them to life as a desktop companion. We only collect what we need to do that, and we explain it here in plain language — what we collect, how we use it, how long we keep it, who helps us process it, and the rights you have over your information. We never sell your data, and we never use your photo for advertising.
What we collect
The photo you upload of your pet, so we can create your companion.
Account information — your email address, or your Google account details if you choose to sign in with Google.
Payment information, which is handled by our payment provider. We never see or store your full card details.
A small amount of device and usage data (such as app version, basic logs, and error reports) to run the service, keep it secure, and improve it.
How we use your photo
We use your photo for one thing only: to create your pet.
Before processing, we remove location and camera data (EXIF metadata) from your photo. We never use your photo to train any model.
We delete your uploaded photo once your pet is made. Your finished pet is saved to your account so you can use it on your desktop and sync it to a new computer.
Where your data is handled
Your account and your finished pet are stored on secure infrastructure in Frankfurt, EU.
Creating your pet involves a trusted processing partner. We strip your photo of identifying metadata before it is processed, and we delete it once your pet is made.
Where creating your pet involves transferring data outside your region, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses). The exact mechanism and partners will be confirmed here with legal counsel before launch.
How long we keep things
Your uploaded photo: deleted once your pet is made.
Your finished pet: hosted for you, free, for 3 years (renewable). We will email you before the hosting period ends — we will not delete it silently. You can download and keep your pet forever, independent of our hosting.
Your account information: kept while your account is open. Records we are legally required to keep (such as transaction records) are kept for the period the law requires.

We use essential cookies to run Petne and keep you signed in. With your permission, we use optional analytics cookies to understand how Petne is used.
You can accept or reject optional cookies at any time using Cookie Settings, and rejecting is as easy as accepting.
Your rights
You can access, correct, or delete your information; download (export) your finished pet at any time; withdraw consent where we rely on it; and object to or restrict certain processing.
If you are in the EU/EEA or UK, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

Children
Petne is intended for adults and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes and contact
If we update this policy, we will post the new version here with an updated date and, for significant changes, give clearer notice.
